About the workshop

This workshop, co-presented by Mark Morris Dance Group/Dance for PD, Care to Dance, Mosa Ballet School/Quand on Danse, is designed those looking to deepen their skills in facilitating dance sessions for people living with Parkinson’s disease. Led by Dance for PD founding teacher and program director David Leventhal, this immersive two-day training is designed for dance teaching artists who have already completed an introductory workshop on dance for Parkinson’s or an equivalent program. It will provide an in-depth exploration of pedagogical and artistic approaches tailored to this specific teaching.

In this workshop, you'll gain insights, perspectives and skills that help you:

• Design activities that foster dancers’ self-expression and creativity
• Adopt inclusive approaches to choreographic repertoire and improvisation
• Integrate musicality as a core element of teaching

This workshop is a unique opportunity to refine teaching skills, expand creative tools, and exchange ideas with other Europe-based instructors involved in the Dance for Parkinson’s initiative. It is also recognized within the Dance for PD training curriculum and provides 16 credits toward Dance for PD certification.

The Dance & Health Annual Symposium – Dancing in Our Shoes: Fostering Inclusion and Belonging in Dance for Health, taking place on
October 17 2025, is a day dedicated to exploring the role of dance as a tool for inclusion and well-being. Through lectures, practical workshops, and exchanges with experts, this event provides a unique platform to reflect on inclusive practices in dance and health.

A key objective of the symposium is to critically examine which profiles are often overlooked when we talk about inclusion in dance. It will encourage discussions on how to ensure that all individuals, regardless of background, ability, or circumstance, are given the opportunity to participate in and benefit from dance.

Professionals from various fields, researchers, and artists will share their experiences and expertise, fostering dialogue and innovation in supporting audiences through dance.

About Dance for PD

The Mark Morris Dance Group's Dance for PD® program invites people with Parkinson's and their families in more than 400 communities and 30 countries around the globe to experience the joys and benefits of dance while creatively addressing symptom-specific concerns related to balance, cognition, motor skill, depression and physical confidence.

Evidence from more than 50 peer-reviewed scientific studies from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, Italy and Germany serves to underpin the effectiveness and benefits of the Dance for PD teaching practice and suggests that dance provides a range of benefits, including improved walking and short-term mobility, enhanced quality of life and self-efficacy, and improvements in mood and social inclusion among people with Parkinson's.

Dance for PD, which began in 2001 as a collaboration between MMDG and Brooklyn Parkinson Group, leverages technology—online classes, on demand resources, and training and a popular instructional At Home video series—to make the program more available to its diverse and expanding network of constituents around the globe.
